Job summary

Commercial Metals in Texas is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers, maintain mobile equipment, diagnose issues, and ensure safe operation.

You will repair engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, maintain records, and follow safety programs; lifting 50 pounds and working outdoors are required. Join a Fortune 500 company with strong training and advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, engines, mobile equipment, and vehicles (years vary by location)
• Experience with a wide variety of tools related to mechanics/hydraulics
• Welding, cutting and fabrication preferred
• Proficient in reading/understanding technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals
• Must lift 50 pounds, climb ladders/steps, work outside in all weather
• Minimum 1 year field experience in heavy industrial operations or manufacturing preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers
• Maintain mobile equipment, cranes, bearings, power transmission, hydraulics/pneumatics, fluid pumping systems and welding principles/rigging
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and tools to determine root cause
• Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting, maintaining supplies, and requesting repairs
• Ensure daily preventive maintenance on vehicles and mobile equipment, including fueling, cleaning, and fluid checks
• Service machinery and mechanical equipment by repairing engines, hydraulics, and other systems
• Repair engine failures and electrical/mechanical malfunctions, replace parts
• Maintain records of work performed, repairs, and material usage
• Utilize hand/power/precision tools for repair and maintenance
• Maintain clean, safe work area and comply with safety regulations
• Participate in CMC Safety Programs and uphold Safety Culture

What You'll Do

• Perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers
• Maintain mobile equipment, cranes, bearings, power transmission, hydraulics/pneumatics, fluid pumping systems and welding principles/rigging
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment, hand tools and personal knowledge to determine root cause
• Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs when needed
• Ensure daily preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed
• Services machinery and mechanical equipment by completing repairs on engines, hydraulics systems, mobile and stationary equipment
• Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair and replacing parts and components
• Maintains specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage
• Possess proficient skills utilizing hand tools, power tools and precision tools for performing all facets of the repair and maintenance process
• Maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows safety regulations
• Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture

What You'll Need

• Experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, engines, mobile equipment, and vehicles (number of years up to location preference)
• Experience with a wide variety of tools related to mechanics/hydraulics
• Welding, cutting and fabrication preferred
• Proficient in reading and understand technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and steps, work outside under all weather conditions
• Minimum 1 year field experience in either heavy industrial operations and/or manufacturing environment preferred

Your Education

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience isrequired
