Job summary

Commercial Metals in Augusta, GA is seeking a maintenance technician to perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers, service heavy machinery, and diagnose system issues across hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical subsystems.

You will read manuals, follow safety guidelines, maintain records, work with a team, and contribute to a robust safety culture while keeping equipment in peak condition.

Qualifications

  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, engines, mobile equipment, and vehicles.
  • Experience with a wide variety of tools related to mechanics/hydraulics.
  • Welding, cutting and fabrication preferred.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers.
  • Maintain mobile equipment, cranes, bearings, power transmission, hydraulics/pneumatics, fluid pumping systems and welding principles/rigging.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems using test equipment and tools to determine root cause.
  • Follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure daily preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including fueling, cleaning, and fluid checks.
  • Repair engine failures, hydraulic/electrical system malfunctions, and replace parts as needed.
  • Maintain records of work performed, repairs, and material usage.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools and precision tools for maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain clean work area and follow safety regulations.
  • Participate in safety programs and uphold safety culture.

What You'll Do
  • Perform DOT maintenance on road tractors and trailers
  • Maintain mobile equipment, cranes, bearings, power transmission, hydraulics/pneumatics, fluid pumping systems and welding principles/rigging
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment, hand tools and personal knowledge to determine root cause
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs when needed
  • Ensure daily preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and mobile equipment, which may include fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed
  • Services machinery and mechanical equipment by completing repairs on engines, hydraulics systems, mobile and stationary equipment
  • Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair and replacing parts and components
  • Maintains specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage
  • Possess proficient skills utilizing hand tools, power tools and precision tools for performing all facets of the repair and maintenance process
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows safety regulations
  • Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture
  • Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor
What You'll Need
  • Experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, engines, mobile equipment, and vehicles (number of years up to location preference)
  • Experience with a wide variety of tools related to mechanics/hydraulics
  • Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics, wiring, and working on heavy equipment
  • Welding, cutting and fabrication preferred
  • Proficient in reading and understand technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and steps, work outside under all weather conditions
  • Minimum 1 year field experience in either heavy industrial operations and/or manufacturing environment preferred
Your Education
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
