Career Opportunities: Sr Instructional Designer (94277)
About Us

The Freeman Company is a global leader in events, on a mission to redefine live for a new era. With a data-driven approach and the industry’s largest network of experts, The Freeman Company’s insights shape exhibitions, exhibits, and events that drive audiences to action. The integrated full‑service solutions leverage a 99‑year legacy in event management as well as new technologies to deliver moments that matter.

Summary

The Sr. Instructional Designer will help design, develop, and implement cutting‑edge learning programs that build competence and confidence within The Freeman Company — with a specific focus on supporting our enterprise digital transformation initiatives. As part of the Learning & Development team, you will develop training assets spanning classroom, virtual, and self‑paced digital formats, always keeping the learner and the business outcome at the center.

This role goes beyond content creation. You will partner with technology teams and business stakeholders to close skill gaps, accelerate adoption of new digital tools, and translate complex, fast‑moving subject matter into engaging, measurable learning experiences. You will understand training needs, create prototypes for larger solutions, and deliver final learning products within prescribed standards of quality, timeline, and effort.

This position will support our Learning & Development team. It is eligible to work a hybrid schedule, generally requiring work in‑office 2‑3 days per week. The ideal candidate will be based out of our North Dallas office in Dallas, TX; however, we are also open to candidates in:

  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Nashville, TN
  • Orlando, FL
  • San Antonio, TX
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Design & Development
  • Design, project manage, and maintain eLearning experiences for required training, consistent with adult learning theory and aligned to digital transformation priorities.
  • Recommend and develop innovative eLearning modules in multiple modalities — videos, stand‑alone online courses, mobile learning, and performance support assets such as job aids and in‑app guidance.
  • Translate and synthesize complex subject matter, including new technologies and evolving processes, into clear, engaging learning experiences that are practical and immediately applicable on the job.
  • Ensure all courses are produced to align with program guidelines, keeping training direct and relevant for learners.
Technology Adoption Support
  • Develop learning solutions that support the adoption of new enterprise technologies, helping employees build confidence and capability during periods of change.
  • Stay current on relevant learning trends, including microlearning, adaptive learning, AI‑enabled content, and blended learning techniques, and apply them where they add genuine value.
  • Use LMS data and learner feedback to track engagement, evaluate effectiveness, and inform continuous improvement.
Collaboration & Quality
  • Engage and collaborate with stakeholders throughout the development process, building strong relationships and ensuring a positive impact on the business.
  • Review deliverables for completeness, compliance with standards, and consistency prior to sending for review.
  • Participate actively in team and project meetings, contributing ideas and flagging risks early.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and sound decision‑making to determine the right solution for each business problem.
Education & Experience
Required
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with relevant work experience is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of instructional design experience developing digital, virtual, and blended learning solutions.
  • Broad knowledge of adult learning principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of ADDIE course design; familiarity with SAM or agile instructional design approaches is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience creating curriculum strategies and training plans, including analyzing, building, and assessing curricula for asynchronous and synchronous environments.
  • Familiarity with graphic design, video editing, image manipulation, and formatting.
  • Experience working on technology adoption, system rollout, or process change initiatives — understanding how learning fits into a broader change effort.
  • Ability to work efficiently under deadlines in a fast‑paced environment with numerous concurrent projects.
  • Highly collaborative, resourceful, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a fully remote team with diverse colleagues, subject matter experts, and stakeholders.
  • Agile and flexible to pivot across projects and working styles to accomplish results that fit the project need.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills; comfortable making complex ideas accessible to non‑technical audiences.
Preferred
  • Experience integrating AI tools into learning workflows — such as custom GPTs, AI voiceover, or adaptive content platforms.
  • Experience partnering with IT project teams on enterprise system implementations is strongly preferred, including translating technical requirements, workflows, or configuration changes into practical learning solutions for end users.
  • Familiarity with UX or human‑centered design principles applied to learning experience design.
  • Certification in instructional design (e.g., ATD CPTD, IACET, or equivalent) a plus.
Core Tool Proficiency
  • Authoring - Articulate Storyline, Rise 360
  • LMS / LXP - Enterprise LMS (Successfactors, Cornerstone or equivalent), SCORM/xAPI
  • AI Tools - AI‑assisted authoring tools, Microsoft Copilot, Synthesia or equivalent
  • Design & Media - Adobe Creative Suite, Snagit, Canva, Synthesia
