Job description

Carey Business School's Office of Institutional Research and Analytics is seeking a highly detailed and analytical individual for the position of Sr. Institutional Research Analyst. This position will support the Carey Business School’s primary institutional research function of capturing, analyzing, and interpreting data on faculty, students, staff and other critical academic, physical and financial information for school leadership decision-making.

The Sr. Institutional Research Analyst will collect, refine and manage data from internal information systems and surveys. The Sr. Analyst will independently conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses of the data. The Sr. Analyst will clearly communicate the results of their analyses in written, graphical, and oral forms. Reporting to the Manager of the Office of Institutional Data and Analytics, the Sr. Analyst will be responsible for responding to internal and external requests for information about the school, preparing data for benchmarking studies and peer exchanges and supporting accreditation data collection and presentation efforts.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Institutional Research & Accreditation Activities (55%)

  • Supports the decision making of the school’s leadership by independently extracting and statistically analyzing school data and presenting findings.
  • Identifies trends, opportunities and concerns through data analysis.
  • Conducts comprehensive studies on targeted topics.
  • Determines plan of action, establishes timelines, and monitors task completion of Institutional Research projects.
  • Creates, documents and analyzes the results of surveys conducted throughout the school.
  • Updates appropriate staff with project information via written and oral presentations when necessary.
  • Answers technical and data related questions from School administrators and staff.
  • Draws upon many sources of school and peer information for comparison and evaluation.
  • Plays a large role in accreditation data collection efforts, providing both the data and guidance for managing the school's accreditation activities for assessing institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement.

Data Collection, Storage and Reporting (45%)

  • Identifies School sources for information and coordinates reporting efforts and accuracy of data.
  • Independently analyzes data from output and is responsible for reports pertaining to demographics, trends, and longitudinal analysis of the school student body and School organization and infrastructure for the administration.
  • Writes narrative reports and creates original charts, graphs, and tables utilizing graphics, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
  • Drafts Ad hoc reports for various School constituencies to support administrative policy and decision-making process.
  • Supports standard data reporting requirements and responds to external information and data surveys.
  • Standardizes survey documentation, tracking and alignment to mission/goals across the school.
  • Works with internal and external sources to monitor and maintain data integrity.
  • Investigates known and potential data problems in the Student Information System and other information systems used at the school.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with internal and external contacts, including Carey Business School administrators, JHU institutional research associates, and accreditation agency personnel.
  • Skilled in compiling data from a variety of internal and external sources, analyzing data and systems, and presenting findings to both internal and external sources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Body of knowledge equivalent to master’s degree with 5-7 years practical experience preferred.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, SPSS) and/or query/report building tools.
  • Three plus years applied research experience in an academic setting.
  • Prior experience in Institutional Research in higher education.
  • Experience with Power BI.
  • Experience with mandatory federal, state, and accreditation reports.

Starting Salary Range: $54,080-$74,390-$94,710 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
