What will I be doing?

  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Funding Development Program within the Community and Environmental Planning Department, supporting member governments across a variety of focus areas, including housing, disaster resilience, mental health, and water supply, among others.
  • Provide direct support outreach, intake, and technical assistance activities related to grant identification, proposal development, grant writing and funding strategies.
  • Lead and support the writing and development of competitive grant proposals in coordination with internal teams and external partners.
  • Collaborate with internal department teams and external partners to ensure seamless integration of grant support services with other regional initiatives and planning efforts.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders to expand program capacity and available resources.
  • Oversee the preparation and coordination of grant application materials in collaboration with program staff.
  • Continuously research and identify new grant opportunities and funding resources that align with regional priorities and member government needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of a strategic framework for the Funding Development Program, contributing to broader Departmental and organizational planning.

Key Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in grant development and management.
  • A successful track record of program development, grant writing and managing competitive grants, including federal, state and/or philanthropic sources.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders and demonstrated experience working with local governments.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency in using standard databases and office applications such as Microsoft Office.

Do you have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
  • 5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with or within regional planning organizations, councils of government, or intergovernmental agencies.
  • Professional certification such as Grant Professional Certified (GPC), Certified Grant Writer, or a certificate in grant writing from an accredited institution or recognized training provider.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and the public funding landscape, including federal, state and local grant programs.
  • Demonstrated success in funding development, including a proven track record of writing and securing competitive grant proposals.
  • Established relationships with local, regional, or national clients or funders.
  • Established connections in the Houston-Galveston region is preferred.
