The primary role of a Sr. Field Engineer is to develop, upgrade, and deploy new processes and equipment for our Sealed Air production facilities. A Sr. Field Engineer should be able to safely operate our manufacturing equipment and experimental processes and will be instrumental in new equipment and process startups. They should possess the ability to design and implement modifications to existing processes and should have highly functioning mechatronics skills. A Sr. Field Engineer should possess a working knowledge of our materials, manufacturing processes, and resulting products. A continuous learning mindset and hands-on approach is expected. This role is remote but ideally near Charlotte, NC, Dallas, TX, or Chicago, IL – or within 1 hour of a major international airport.

Responsibilities:
  • This candidate must be able to work alone or in a team environment with other engineer(s) and designer(s) to identify, formulate, and implement design solutions.
  • Apply process and equipment troubleshooting in plants, labs, and corporate environments.
  • Installation, checkout, and startup support of equipment in any of the Sealed Air plants.
  • Lead or take part in safety risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate and communicate with multi-discipline teams consisting of engineering, EH&S, management, maintenance, internal customers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure solutions are cost effective and meet the desired design criteria.
  • Apply strong mechanical, electrical, automation, and technical skills to all facets of the project to include planning and solution development, equipment specification and procurement, machine design, and onsite startup support.
  • Utilize knowledge of PLC architecture and ladder logic to troubleshoot controls issues and make minor changes as needed.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies that can be incorporated into the existing processes to improve yield, increase throughput, and/or reduce cost.
  • Support the development and training of standard operating procedures as well as preventative and predictive maintenance documentation.
  • Frequent domestic and international travel required. (50-80% travel)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable technical field and 8-10+ years of directly related engineering or technical experience required OR Associate’s degree in an applicable technical field and 12-15+ years of directly related technical experience required.
  • 8 plus years of experience with manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Work experience in plastic packaging, extrusion, web handling, and converting processes are a plus.
  • Proven skill with process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills across multiple disciplines, including management.
  • Hands-on experience & ability to work with contractors to install & startup process equipment.
  • Strong and creative machine design skills and working knowledge of 2D and 3D design platforms.
  • Experience with troubleshooting control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, and configuring motor control systems, servo drives, variable frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems
  • Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
  • Ability to interpret, design, and note field changes for mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley and Siemens programming software.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project).
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, take initiative and drive for results to exceed customer expectations.
  • Able to handle multiple projects.
