Job summary

Energy Cognito LLC is seeking an experienced Senior ETRM Business Analyst / Product Delivery Lead to bridge business teams and software developers for our ETRM platform. You will drive requirements, planning, and delivery, ensuring alignment with client workflows and domain concepts.

You will analyze existing systems, craft user stories and acceptance criteria, and maintain a lean development backlog while coordinating with our Japan operations testing and validation teams.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior ETRM Business Analyst / Product Delivery Lead to join our software development team and help drive requirements, planning, and delivery for our Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) platform.

This role will serve as a bridge between business stakeholders, operations, and the development team. The successful candidate will have substantial ETRM or CTRM domain experience and be able to translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements for software developers.

This is not a mere project management position. We are looking for someone who understands energy trading systems, can independently analyze requirements, ask the right domain questions, organize development work, and help ensure projects move from business request through successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements and Business Analysis

• Work with company leadership, operations, clients, and developers to understand business needs and translate them into clear software requirements.
• Develop functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and supporting documentation.
• Identify missing requirements, edge cases, dependencies, and potential conflicts before development begins.
• Analyze existing system behavior and data to support requirements and troubleshoot business issues.
• Develop a strong understanding of existing product functionality and client workflows.
• Help distinguish product requirements from client-specific customization requests.

Development Planning and Organization

• Maintain and organize the development backlog.
• Work with technical leadership to break larger initiatives into appropriately scoped development work.
• Ensure work is sufficiently defined before it enters development.
• Help prioritize and sequence development based on business priorities, dependencies, and available development capacity.
• Track work through development, validation, and release.
• identify blockers and unresolved decisions and drive them toward resolution.
• Help establish lightweight, effective development planning and delivery processes appropriate for a small software team.

Product and Delivery Coordination

• Act as a primary functional point of contact between business stakeholders and the development team.
• Work closely with our Japan operations team, which provides functional testing and product validation.
• Coordinate acceptance criteria and expected behavior with the team responsible for QA and validation.
• Ensure delivered functionality addresses the original business requirement.
• Maintain documentation of important product decisions and functional behavior.
• Assist with release planning and communication of product changes.

Required Experience

• Significant professional experience with ETRM, CTRM, energy trading, or closely related commodity trading systems.
• Strong understanding of energy trading concepts and the trade lifecycle.
• Experience performing business analysis for complex enterprise software.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into specifications that software developers can implement.
• Experience working directly with software development teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to independently investigate requirements and challenge incomplete or ambiguous requests.

Preferred Experience

• Experience implementing, supporting, or developing commercial or proprietary ETRM/CTRM platforms.
• Familiarity with positions, exposures, P&L, market data, forward curves, settlements, physical and financial products, and other common ETRM concepts.
• Experience with Jira or similar development planning tools.
• Experience with Agile or other iterative software development processes.
• SQL and relational database experience sufficient to investigate data and validate system behavior.
• Technical familiarity with APIs, integrations, databases, and modern software architecture.
• Product Owner, Lead Business Analyst, or similar experience.
• Experience working with geographically distributed development and operations teams.
