Job summary

KBR, Inc. is seeking a Sr Engineering Documentation Specialist to support NASA GSFC's SGSLR program.

You will create and update engineering design, operations, maintenance, and drawing documents for current and future systems, and collaborate with engineers on content and formats. Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of engineering technical writing experience, with strong editing, CAD-related familiarity (AutoCAD/SolidWorks), and proficiency in MS Office, Visio, and Adobe

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• 8+ years of engineering related technical writing experience.
• In lieu of formal education, equivalent related experience accepted.
• Ability to read & edit engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Proven ability to prepare draft material for internal review by SMEs and final review by customer.
• Must be flexible and adapt to new information and programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience researching and developing procedural information for technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and mentor junior technical writing staff.
• Be flexible with work hours for surge situations; travel may be required.

Sr Engineering Documentation Specialist

KBR is looking for an Engineering Documentation Specialist to support the design, development, testing, and deployment of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s (GSFC) next generation satellite laser ranging system, the Space Geodesy Satellite Laser Ranging (SGSLR) system.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside engineers to create technical design, operations, maintenance, & drawing documents for existing and future systems
• Create new and update any legacy documents already developed
• Use engineering documentation, operator and maintenance manuals, logistics data, and direction from engineers to create, write, revise, standardize, edit, review, and finalize documents
• Research, develop, and/or update content for printed manuals, Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), I-types, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) documents, illustrations, and parts breakdown manuals
• Gather and research technical information, including engineering and development information, for use in documentation activities, prepare draft material for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by customer
• Lead, Coach and Mentor Junior Technical Writing Staff
• Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements
• Travel may be required to support projects; this may involve airline travel

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 8 + years of engineering related technical writing experience
• In lieu of formal education, equivalent related experience is accepted. Specific contract requirements regarding education and experience will prevail.
• Ability to read & edit engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics
• Proven ability to prepare draft material for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by customer
• Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to new information and programs
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Previous experience researching, reviewing and understanding technical information as well as developing procedural information for technical documentation
• Previous experience with video training and capturing images with a camera, photo manipulation
• Working knowledge and experience with space, engineering support, or IT related projects
• Proficient in Microsoft office suite, Visio & Adobe Acrobat Pro

Preferred Experience & Skills:

• CAD products, including but not limited to AutoCad & SolidWorks
• Experience working with NASA technical documents related to technical manual development, delivery, and integrated logistics support

Basic Compensation:

$102,700 - $168,000

The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate’s working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
