Job summary

KBR, Inc. in Chantilly, VA, seeks a Sr Space Systems Engineer - Ground to provide technical oversight for SDA Tranche 3 ground segment development, testing, integration and operations. You will coordinate satellite and ground system requirements and collaborate with government, military, SETA, FFRDC and industry partners.

The role requires 15+ years in satellite/ground systems, strong systems engineering skills, and a TS/SCI clearance. On-site work with travel 0–20% is expected.

Qualifications

• 15+ years experience with satellite and/or ground systems.
• Technical and analytic understanding of satellite-ground system interaction.
• Experience in systems engineering; ability to work in fast-paced environments and communicate effectively.
• TS Clearance with SCI Eligibility.
• AI&T background to coordinate, author, review test plans and data management as part of SDA test enterprise.
• Experience coordinating logistics for test execution and day-of-test activities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide technical over sight and leadership to SDA Tranche 3 ground segment development, testing, integration, and operations.
Coordinate the development of satellite system requirements; develop enterprise, system, functional, performance, and interface requirements; and consider the impact of the satellites’ requirements to the ground system, including ground entry point acquisitions, operations center set up and maintenance, and ground software solutions.

Resolve highly complex and multidimensional problems requiring consideration of variables that have multiple aspects of the project/program.

Oversee integration and test of satellites into the SDA’s ground system network design and with the other satellite vendors to create a mesh network.

Assess technical maturity and risk of necessary changes and updates to ground systems to enable overall architecture capabilities.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams (i.e. Government, Military, SETA, FFRDC and Industry) and external stakeholders.
Prepare briefings for senior decision makers.

Qualifications

Required

• Minimum of 15+ years experience with satellite and/or ground system
• Technical and analytic understanding of satellite and ground system interaction
• Experience in systems engineering
  Ability to work in fast paced environment with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• TS Clearance with SCI Eligibility
• Must have an AI&T background to "collaborate with engineering and requirements subject matter experts to coordinate, author, review, and revise test plans, test procedures, data management and analysis plans, and test reporting as part of SDA's test enterprise.
• Must have experience coordinating logistics for test execution and perform day-of-test activities in support of satellite vehicle and ground system integration.

Desired

• Masters degree in STEM (science, technical, engineering, math) or related discipline
• Experience DoD and or IC customers
• Active TS/SCI clearance

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
