Job summary

Saint-Gobain in Northborough, MA is seeking a Sr. EHS & Sustainability Engineer, Level 1 to advance EHS, sustainability, and 5S strategies across Innovation North America and R&D sites.

This onsite, hands-on role reports to the Strategic EHS&S Manager and collaborates with R&D teams and the global EHS&S network to share best practices. The role focuses on developing, deploying and monitoring policies, guiding risk assessments, audits, investigations, and training; designing sustainability

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience, or master's with 3+ years, engineering/EHS/sustainability preferred.
• Broad EHS experience in a proactive and rigorous environment, preferably laboratory or R&D, including EHS management, training, and communication.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable EHS requirements, with the ability to interpret and apply requirements in technical or industrial settings.
• Strong project management, organization, recordkeeping, problem-solving, and contractor-coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Clear verbal, written, and presentation skills; customer focus, accountability, integrity, and reliable follow-through.
• Ability to influence without authority, collaborate across functions, and lead adoption of new behaviors, systems, and methods.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage sustainability programs aligned with corporate goals; track and report energy, water, waste, and environmental-impact reduction initiatives.
• Champion 5S and continuous improvement through audits, training, employee engagement, and improvement projects.
• Serve as a subject matter resource for EHS, sustainability, and 5S, and act as backup Laser Safety Officer and Radiation Safety Officer.
• Collaborate with R&D teams, contractors, regulatory agencies, and regional and global networks to implement best practices and drive change.

Sr. EHS & Sustainability Engineer, Level 1

Advance EHS, sustainability, and 5S strategies while strengthening a proactive culture across Innovation North America and associated R&D sites.

Based in Northborough, MA and reporting to the Strategic EHS&S Manager, this onsite, hands-on individual contributor works with R&D teams, the broader North American and global EHS&S network, and external contractors to implement effective programs and share best practices.

Is this job for you ?

• Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience, or master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience; engineering, EHS, sustainability, environmental science, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Broad EHS experience in a proactive and rigorous environment, preferably laboratory or R&D, including EHS management, training, and communication.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable EHS requirements, with the ability to interpret and apply requirements in technical or industrial settings.
• Strong project management, organization, recordkeeping, problem-solving, and contractor-coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Clear verbal, written, and presentation skills; customer focus, accountability, integrity, and reliable follow-through.
• Ability to influence without authority, collaborate across functions, and lead adoption of new behaviors, systems, and methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years supporting 5S or continuous-improvement and sustainability initiatives, including recycling, chemical reuse, responsible materials, circularity, data verification, performance tracking, or improvement projects.
• Knowledge of Scope 1, 2, and 3 levers; experience with energy-reduction or renewable-energy initiatives.
• CSP certification and working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001.
• Biosafety, laser safety, radiation safety, 5S, ergonomics, event investigation, working-at-height, or hot-work permit training.

Additional Requirements

• Complete RCRA and DOT training within one month.
• Valid driver's license; less than 5% travel.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed and work in laboratory, industrial, and field conditions using required PPE.
• This position requires lawful access to export-controlled items.

Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $92,000 to $142,000 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 12% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $103,040 to $159,040. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
