Qualifications

Job description

The Lead Quality Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of polyimide and other engineering plastic components through meticulous measurement, recording, and reporting of quality characteristics. This position involves the use of both contact and non-contact measuring tools, as well as conducting visual inspections. The Lead Quality Technician will oversee the site’s calibration program, manage incoming material inspections, track discrepant materials, generate customer Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and process capability reports, and conduct internal audits.

The Lead Quality Technician is expected to foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork, continuous improvement, and thorough documentation of quality processes. The Lead Quality Technician will coordinate with and provide day-to-day direction to Quality Technicians including assigning work, establishing priorities, monitoring workload and performance, providing technical guidance, and escalating personnel or performance concerns to the Quality Supervisor.

  • Conduct safety observations, participate in EHS activities, use required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean, organized workspace using 5S principles.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot measurement equipment under standard operating conditions; perform preventive maintenance on measurement equipment.
  • Follow written procedures, work routers, work instructions, and applicable ASTM specifications.
  • Review quality documents for accuracy and completeness and complete required records accurately and honestly.
  • Manage the Quality Notification process and control of nonconforming material, including timely and accurate documentation and escalation.
  • Complete and sign off first-article and last-article inspections in a timely manner.
  • Oversee assigned calibration activities and incoming material inspections.
  • Create and update inspection plans and work instructions; select appropriate metrology to verify conformance to quality requirements.
  • Use Minitab or similar software to generate process capability and SQC reports.
  • Interpret customer drawings and GD&T requirements to develop quality inspection plans.
  • Train and support Quality Technicians, Inspectors, Screeners, and Shipping/Receiving personnel as needed.
  • Serve as a technical resource for quality-related questions and recommendations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, output, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Handle raw materials, hazardous waste, and defective parts responsibly and in an environmentally safe manner.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the local pay range for this position, which is $26.00 to $40.00 per hour. This hourly pay rate can vary depending on location, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.

In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for periodic bonus payments or an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount can be up to 5% of the hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures. The total annual target cash range, consisting of the hourly pay rate plus bonus and annualized at 40 hours per week for 52 weeks, is $56,800 to $87,400. Bonus payments are variable compensation, may vary based on company and individual performance, and are not guaranteed.

To make sure nothing is forgotten
  • Five or more years of experience as a Quality Technician.
  • Five years of experience in a manufacturing environment; aerospace, aviation, automotive, or defense experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and optical measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 and AS9100 quality management standards.
  • Experience with PPAP, control plans, and PFMEA preferred.
  • Basic computer and mathematical skills; experience with Minitab or similar analytical software.
  • Ability to direct daily team activities, assign work, establish priorities, and provide technical guidance.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully and maintain reliable attendance.
  • Constant visual attention for inspection, measurement, color distinction, and close work.
  • Frequent reading and writing, sitting, fine finger and hand use, talking and hearing, and repetitive hand or wrist motion.
  • Rare climbing or balancing; bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and standing or walking.
  • Ability to work in elevated temperatures and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
