Job Summary

Under the immediate supervision of the Sr. Custodian Supervisor, a Lead Custodian, or the Operations Manager, the incumbent performs the following:

Duties And Essential Job Functions

1. Collection and Disposal of Solid Waste and Soiled Linen: Follows Infection Control Policies. Empties and cleans waste receptacles and replaces plastic liners. Labels, collects, and removes infectious and non-infectious waste material from assigned areas. Collects soiled linen from patient areas and disposes of it via linen chute or by transporting it in covered soiled linen carts. Uses large tilt trucks to transport waste to disposal units or compactors. Uses hand trucks for infectious waste containers.
2. Floor Care: Sweeps, dusts, mops, and vacuums floors in various areas. Operates cleaning equipment like floor polishers, scrubbers, and carpet shampoo machines.
3. General Cleaning: Dusts and washes furniture and fixtures, cleans restrooms, kitchens, and other areas, including fixtures, appliances, and surfaces. May use ladders for high cleaning tasks.
4. Supplies and Equipment: Requisitions and maintains cleaning supplies and chemicals. Observes safety regulations when handling chemicals.
5. Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs additional duties such as cleaning beds, gurneys, and other equipment, moving furniture, inspecting work, and responding to emergencies.

Department Description

The Department of Pharmacy includes approximately 275 FTE, providing services across multiple UCSF campuses and settings.
