Position Summary

The Sr. Construction Project Manager leads end-to-end execution of EV charging infrastructure projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety from notice-to-proceed through commissioning and handover. Operating as a fully independent contributor, this role serves as the primary point of accountability for project delivery — coordinating across internal cross-functional teams, contractors, utilities, and property owners to ensure each site is built on time, within budget, and in full compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and contract requirements. The Sr. Construction Project Manager exercises sound independent judgment on complex, multi-variable project challenges, proactively identifies and mitigates risk, and drives resolution of issues that span permitting, construction sequencing, contractor performance, and stakeholder alignment. This role also contributes to team capability by mentoring junior construction managers and associates.

Responsibilities

Project Execution & Delivery

  • Manage multiple concurrent EV charging construction projects from notice-to-proceed through commissioning and operational handover, maintaining full accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and quality on each project.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans, construction schedules, and milestone trackers; report accurately on project status, cost performance, and schedule adherence to internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Manage change orders, contract modifications, and contractor negotiations; evaluate scope changes for cost and schedule impact and drive timely resolution to minimize project disruption.
  • Provide required on-site presence to monitor construction activities, verify quality of work, and complete end-of-construction punch walks to confirm deliverables meet EVgo’s standards prior to closeout.
  • Maintain complete and accurate project documentation including contracts, permits, as-builts, inspection records, warranties, and O&M plans to support operational handover, grant reporting, and audit requirements.

Stakeholder & Contractor Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison across internal cross-functional teams — including Site Development, Development Engineering, Supply Chain, and Asset Management — coordinating inputs and aligning activities to keep construction on track.
  • Manage relationships with EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors, property owners, and landlords; hold parties accountable to contractual obligations, quality standards, and project timelines.
  • Coordinate with utilities on service design, interconnection timelines, and energization scheduling; manage AHJ relationships to facilitate permitting approvals and inspections.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and escalation items clearly and proactively to internal leadership; represent EVgo professionally in all external interactions with customers, owners, and agency contacts.

Risk, Safety & Compliance

  • Proactively identify potential project risks across schedule, cost, scope, and contractor performance; develop and implement corrective action plans with clear ownership and timelines to prevent issues from escalating.
  • Enforce safety standards on all project sites; ensure contractor and subcontractor compliance with OSHA requirements, EVgo safety protocols, and site-specific safety plans throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with applicable building codes, electrical standards, zoning requirements, and contract documents; manage permitting conditions through to final inspection and sign-off.
  • Support compliance with public funding requirements where applicable, including documentation standards for NEVI, DOE, or state grant-funded projects.

Team Development & Knowledge Sharing

  • Mentor and provide day-to-day guidance to junior construction managers and project associates, sharing technical knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned to build team capability.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of EVgo’s construction management processes, templates, and standards; identify opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency across the project portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.

Desired Skills

  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA), AHJ permitting processes, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Proficiency in construction project management and scheduling tools (e.g., Procore, Smartsheet, MS Project, Primavera); experience with Salesforce or Sitetracker a plus.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills; able to lead alignment across internal teams and external partners without direct authority.
  • Proven ability to make autonomous, sound decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with multiple simultaneous projects and competing priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure construction strongly preferred; background in electrical, civil, or distributed infrastructure construction highly valued.
  • PMP certification or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites nationally; estimated 30-50% travel depending on active project portfolio.
  • Combination of education and hands-on construction project management experience required in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Experience managing EPC contractors and subcontractors, including contract administration, change order management, and performance accountability.

  • Financial Benefits: 401(k), Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for medical and dependent care, life and disability insurance
