Job description

At Devon, we will offer you a career full of energy and unmatched opportunities to solve today's greatest challenges. Innovation, creative problem-solving and positive change happen when people step out of their comfort zone and think differently. Our values, workplace practices, wellness programs, benefits and compensation are aimed at helping employees manage their unique personal life and care for their families so they can focus on contributing to the fullest.

Job Profile Summary

The Senior Construction/Facilities Engineer, working under limited supervision, is responsible for designing and developing drawings for area-specific production facilities, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimizing hydrocarbon recovery. The role involves evaluating and designing production facilities to separate and process hydrocarbons and produced water to meet third party specifications.. The role troubleshoots mechanical failures, manages detailed cost estimates and construction timing, and utilizes Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) analysis for air emissions modeling. The role also contributes to air quality management through dispersant modeling and emissions abatement, emphasizing safety in construction and facilities activities.

Job Description
  • Supports asset team by developing long range surface planning scenarios to optimize the field development plan and subsurface production forecast.
  • Identifies future infrastructure requirements driven by field life extension, new well campaigns, reservoir pressure decline, and changing fluid composition.
  • Screen and evaluate facility development options - debottlenecking, new infrastructure, tie-backs - and recommend preferred concepts through structured decision gates.
  • Develop surface plans for production facilities to accommodate asset field development plans, including primary artificial lift selection (CTB gas lift, centralized gas lift, electric vs. gas drive, jet pumps, etc.).
  • Align basis of design with production forecasts and program objectives; provide project-specific deliverables including cost estimating, equipment forecasting, PFD, BOM, plot plan, SOW/project book, flowline routing, Pro-Max model, Closed Vent System Assessment (EPA OOOOb), Site Security Diagrams (BLM compliance), and air permit submittal.
  • Work closely with reservoir engineers and geologists to translate production forecasts and fluid characterization studies into surface facility requirements.
  • Oversee new well tie-ins, well start-ups after interventions, and flowback management at the wellhead and flowline level.
  • Coordinate closely with the subsurface team on artificial lift selection, choke management, and tubing head pressure management.
  • Align surface facility capability with reservoir deliverability, pressure trends, GOR, and water cut changes over field life.
  • Support production optimization decisions in collaboration with reservoir engineers, including compression additions and debottlenecking.
  • Provide capital and operating cost estimates for facilities development scenarios to support economic modelling and investment decisions.
  • Support project development gate reviews (select - scope - plan - execute - close) by providing technical assurance of facilities scope and cost.
  • Ensure lessons learned from current operations are captured and reflected in the design basis for future projects.
  • Conduct purposeful field visits to perform site surveys for new infrastructure, verify existing facility constraints, and ground-truth planning assumptions.
  • Support field teams during significant project milestones - commissioning, first oil/gas from new tiebacks, major turnarounds.
  • Develops drawings for area-specific production facilities, ensuring compliance with government regulations and optimizing flow efficiency and hydrocarbon recovery.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical failures in production equipment, and collaborates with safety, environmental, and field operations teams to optimize well site safety and environmental performance.
  • Develops detailed cost estimates and construction timing for production facilities, serving as a project manager in collaboration with the organization's field staff.
  • Utilizes Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) analysis to model recombined hydrocarbon systems for air emissions, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
  • Collaborates with EHS on air dispersant modeling using commercial software programs as well as on air emissions abatement by evaluating, designing, and modifying controls, enhancing hydrocarbon recoveries, thereby contributing to air quality management.
  • Understands material specifications and suitable applications for surface facilities ensuring resilience in various environments.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Civil) or any other related discipline and/or commensurate work experience is required.
Experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in areas such as Production, Plant, Pipeline and Facility Design, Construction, Operations or a related field. Industry experience is preferred.
