Join us as a Senior Compliance Engineer, where you’ll lead strategic compliance efforts, support cross-functional innovation, and shape the future of safe, high-performance products across multiple industries.
The Senior Compliance Engineer leads the planning, execution, and maintenance of product and regulatory compliance initiatives across the organization. This role ensures that products meet applicable domestic and international regulations, industry standards, and customer requirements throughout the product lifecycle. Serving as the subject matter expert for third-party certifications and regulatory strategy, this position is responsible for guiding compliance processes, managing audits, and producing technical documentation to support product certification and market access.
This position also supports the maintenance and continuous improvement of Dekko’s DAP certification programs with UL, supporting both internal operations and external customer needs in regulated markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare Descriptive and Technical Reports
- Develop clear, detailed reports and test summaries to support UL certifications and submissions.
- Ensure documentation accurately reflects product design, test conditions, methodologies, and results.
- Support the primary author of UL submittal packages and engineering justifications.
Interpret and Apply Regulatory Requirements
- Apply global regulatory and safety standards (e.g., UL, CSA) to ensure product compliance across all applicable markets.
Lead Certification Activities
- Manage UL certification projects from quoting through issuance of Certificates of Compliance (CoC).
- Coordinate test data collection, sample submission, and final report reviews.
- Maintain Dekko’s UL Data Acceptance Program (DAP) status.
- Manage lab documentation, calibration procedures, and audit readiness.
- Serve as an authorized Signatory responsible for validating test data and ensuring adherence to UL testing protocols.
Manage Regulatory Documentation
- Prepare and maintain compliance documentation such as:
- Technical files
- Declarations of conformity
- Test plans aligned with current standards
Support Product Development and Launch
- Provide regulatory guidance throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure alignment with compliance and labeling requirements.
Coordinate Testing and Data Submission
- Oversee product testing activities in Dekko’s DAP lab and with external facilities.
- Ensure data integrity, traceability, and full compliance with UL-approved test methods.
Respond to Surveillance Audits and Variation Notices
- Lead responses to UL audits and surveillance activities.
- Investigate and resolve Variation Notices (VNs) using root cause analysis and documented corrective actions.
Monitor Evolving Standards
- Track changes to UL, CSA, and international standards using the Collaborative Standards Development System (CSDS) and other resources.
- Evaluate the impact of changes on certifications and product development plans.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Program Management, and Sourcing teams.
- Ensure product design, components, and materials are aligned with regulatory compliance strategies.
Support IP, Labeling, and Documentation
- Review product labeling, installation instructions, and technical documents.
- Ensure all content meets accuracy and compliance scope requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
- 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, product certification, or quality engineering.
- Deep knowledge of applicable regulatory standards (e.g., IEC, ISO, UL, CE Marking, EMC/EMI, FCC).
- Experience managing third-party testing and certification efforts.
- Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
- Must complete UL’s required training for signatories under the DAP or applicable test program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of UL standards relevant to Dekko products (e.g., UL 962, UL 1286, UL 498).
- Ability to interpret technical standards, engineering drawings, and test reports.
- Excellent communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., ASQ CQE, RAC, PMP).
- Experience in highly regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics.
- Familiarity with risk management processes (e.g., FMEA, ISO 14971).
- Working knowledge of compliance tools and software (e.g., regulatory databases, document control systems).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (10–20%).
- Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods in office and lab environments.
