Power System Engineer and Grid Code Compliance

Reporting Line

This position reports to the Service Manager.

Your Role and Responsibilities

We are hiring solely in locations Canada & US. Remote working at these locations is possible up to 100%.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform detailed technical assessments to ensure wind, solar, and battery storage systems meet regional and national grid codes, including grid connection studies (load flow, short circuit, stability, and protection coordination analyses).
  2. Collaborate with regulatory bodies and utilities to interpret and implement grid code requirements.
  3. Design, model, and simulate power systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation within the grid, developing strategies for voltage regulation, frequency control, and reactive power management.
  4. Evaluate and recommend enhancements to power generation equipment to maintain compliance and optimize performance.
  5. Coordinate and perform grid compliance tests (fault ride-through, harmonics, dynamic performance), develop test plans, and analyze results for regulatory reporting.
  6. Monitor regulatory changes, prepare and submit documentation, reports, and certifications, and liaise with authorities and stakeholders to resolve compliance issues.
  7. Work closely with project managers and technical teams to ensure grid compliance throughout project lifecycle, providing technical guidance and support.
Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering; P.Eng or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Over five years of experience in power systems engineering, with expertise in grid compliance and renewable energy integration.
  • Proficiency in PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP; deep understanding of grid codes and standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills; ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Certifications such as PE or in renewable energy/grid compliance are advantageous.
