Job description

Job Title: Sr. Category Analyst

As this role is based out of our office in Bentonville, Arkansas, we will focus on candidates local to this area.

American Greetings is looking for a Sr. Category Analyst to carry out standard reporting and data analysis from various data sources, including Point-of-Sale, shipments, product footage, pockets, and other internal data management/mining systems.

In this role, you will analyze and interpret data using category management and statistical techniques to improve sales performance at retail.

Our ideal candidate will have significant product, merchandising, and business process knowledge, enabling them to work independently in supporting the business. You will support Sales, Production Management, and Operations to secure placement, improve execution, and enhance productivity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluate and develop analysis methodologies to track, analyze, and plan retailer opportunities, leveraging Point-of-Sale, shipment, pockets, and product footage data to provide insights for retailer, Sales, and Product Merchant teams.
  2. Collaborate directly with Card Merchant and other product teams to provide insights and support in updating product offerings.
  3. Work with product and operations teams to provide information and support for efficient program execution.
  4. Track merchandising and promotional efforts to assess efficiency and effectiveness, making recommendations for improvement.
  5. Communicate insights effectively, both verbally and in writing, ensuring the accuracy of reports shared with retailers and upper management.
  6. Provide reporting and analytical support for the Puerto Rico buyer’s specific needs.
  7. Support the SAM Team Operations group with reporting and analysis for field communication and program tracking.
  8. Assist the Category Manager in developing space allocation models and other initiatives.
  9. Support Sales, Merchandising, and Category Managers in preparing sales presentations for buyers.
  10. Participate in training and development of other Category Analysts, defining report and analysis requirements.
Experience Required:

Experience: Minimum of 3+ years applying quantitative methods to solve business problems. Prior experience with Excel, SAS, Access, SQL, or similar large database applications is strongly desired.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong quantitative skills and ability to apply statistical/data analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, SAS, SPSS, etc.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal clients and external partners, including retailers.
Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in business, statistics, operations research, or a related field with a focus on quantitative analysis. A Master’s Degree in these disciplines is preferred.
