An individual contributor role that provides a high level of expertise in the administration, design, development, and integration of strategic, high-priority BI applications across the entire software development lifecycle (Agile). This role may also provide guidance to others to support the building of complex technical capabilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Participates in installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting various BI applications that support data visualization and analysis, applying technical knowledge and best practices.
- Works as a key Center of Excellence (CoE) team member, delivering results and creating value for CNA, customers, and internal stakeholders. Collaborates with external resources as needed.
- Leads or supports the design, implementation, and automation of data platform capabilities aligned with business needs.
- Adheres to quality and reliability standards within an Agile environment.
- Designs or maintains automation scripts and tools for BI platform administration, deployment, and performance tuning.
- Collaborates with BI developers, data analysts, and stakeholders to understand and support BI requirements.
- Researches and implements process improvements to address technology gaps.
- Evaluates new BI technologies and practices to enhance reporting, analytics, data science, and data management.
- Maintains professional knowledge through education, publications, networking, and participation in professional societies. Drives evolution of BI development standards.
- Applies machine learning techniques where applicable.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship
Typically reports to Director or above.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Strong understanding of relational databases, ETL/ELT, star schema, data modeling, etc.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Curiosity and interest in exploring new BI technologies.
- Expertise in Python scripting for automation.
- Proficiency in SQL for large datasets.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for a matrixed environment.
- Preferred experience with Looker, ThoughtSpot, Tableau, Power BI, Qlikview.
- Preferred experience with GCP and BigQuery.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and methodologies.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related; Master’s preferred.
- Typically 5+ years in data, analytics, or application development.
- 3+ years coding in Python, Java, or SQL.
- Experience with Agile methodologies preferred.
- Certifications such as GCP, Data Engineering are a plus.
