Job Overview

An individual contributor role that provides a high level of expertise in the administration, design, development, and integration of strategic, high-priority BI applications across the entire software development lifecycle (Agile). This role may also provide guidance to others to support the building of complex technical capabilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Participates in installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting various BI applications that support data visualization and analysis, applying best practices.
2. Works as a key member of the Center of Excellence (CoE) team, delivering results and creating value for CNA and its stakeholders, collaborating with external resources as needed.
3. Leads or supports the design, implementation, and automation of data platform capabilities to meet business needs.
4. Ensures adherence to quality and reliability standards within an Agile environment.
5. Develops and maintains automation scripts and tools for BI platform administration and performance tuning.
6. Collaborates with BI developers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to understand and support BI requirements.
7. Researches and implements process improvements to address technology gaps.
8. Evaluates new BI technologies and best practices to enhance reporting, analytics, and data management.
9. Maintains professional knowledge through educational activities and networking, driving the evolution of CNA BI processes and standards.
10. Applies machine learning techniques where applicable.
11. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship

Typically reports to a Director or above.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Strong understanding of relational databases, ETL/ELT processes, star schema, and data modeling.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Curiosity and interest in exploring new BI technologies.
• Expertise in Python scripting for automation.
• Proficiency in SQL for large-scale datasets.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred experience with BI tools like Looker, ThoughtSpot, Tableau, Power BI, QlikView.
• Preferred experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery.
• Familiarity with the insurance industry is a plus.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools and methodologies.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in data, analytics, or application development.
• 3+ years of coding experience in Python, Java, or SQL.
• Experience with Agile methodologies preferred.
• Certifications such as GCP or Data Engineering are a plus.
