Job description

The Intrepid Museum is seeking an experienced Sr. Benefits Manager to join our Human Resources Department. We are looking for a resourceful, team-focused professional who is a motivated, detailed-oriented individual with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Sr. Benefits Manager manages and administers all aspects of benefit programs including ongoing plan evaluation and rollout of new benefits, vendor management, and compliance and communication of benefits programs and policies to current and former employees. The Benefits Manager will also oversee and maintain the integrity of the data in the HRIS System and will liaise with payroll in order to report all employee status changes on a biweekly basis. This role may also assist the VP, Human Resources with generalist functions including recruitment, performance management and employee relations. Salary Range: $80,000 - $85,000.

Responsibilities include the following:

Manages and administers employee health & wellness and 403(b) benefit programs, including conducting benefit orientations, processing new enrollments, researching and resolving benefits related issues, reconciling invoices and required compliance testing.

Manages all aspects of 403(b) plan administration, including annual compliance testing and assisting with the annual audit.

Manages all aspects of COBRA administration.

Maintains employee files, including disability and workers compensation files, I-9 files, insurance enrollment files, and all other employee records to ensure accurate records kept in compliance with Museum policy and legal requirements.

Inputs, maintains and oversees the accuracy of employee data into the HRIS system. Informs payroll of all employee status changes such as hires, promotions, transfers and terminations.

Ensures compliance with vacation, sick, personal and leave of absence policies (example: FMLA, PFL) and maintains appropriate records of employee time off. Maintains accurate data and provides related reports as requested.

Acts as employee, insurance carrier and government point of contact for Workers Compensation issues.

Advises employees and managers on policies, procedures and federal/ state/local laws to ensure compliance.

Works with VP, Human Resources when developing new policies or adjusting existing policies ensuring that they comply with all applicable laws as well as best meeting the needs of the Museum.

Conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward Museum goals.

Prepares employee termination notices and related documentation. Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs.

Performs other duties as required by management.

Qualified candidates will possess Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or equivalent; a minimum of four years of experience in benefits and compensation administration including 401(k)/403(b) administration, COBRA, ADA, FMLA and Workers Compensation. Experience in administration of insurance programs including processing of new hire enrollments, invoices and terminations. Must have strong experience using ADP Workforce now, preferably the HR, Benefits & Time & Attendance modules. Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements a plus. Highly organized and an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong interpersonal and communication skills a must as the candidate will interact at all levels of the organization from employees new to the workforce to senior management level. Highly proficient in Word, Excel and database management. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of legal regulations and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Strong leadership skills, demonstrated track record of high ethical character. Strong critical thinking, complex problem solving skills. PHR/SPHR/SHRM certification preferred.
