Job summary

Job Summary

The Senior Associate, Transmission Network Analytics (P3) acts as a technical expert in interconnection feasibility studies and network upgrade cost estimate activities through the full life cycle of project development. The role involves evaluating acquisition opportunities, determining optimal locations for renewable energy projects, verifying interconnection study results, and negotiating resolutions with ISOs and Transmission Providers. The incumbent will work with internal and external stakeholders to review and evaluate interconnection standards and study practices, transmission siting feasibility, system impact studies, facility studies, and Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs). Excellent communication, collaboration, and multitasking skills are required, alongside strong attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex ideas.

Essential Functions
  • Support the Transmission Group with development of strategic and tactical plans.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on critical transmission issues related to commercial power transactions, planning issues, and real‑time operational issues.
  • Independently perform and lead transmission power‑flow, deliverability, and interconnection studies with limited oversight to support project development, siting, and interconnection strategy.
  • Identify potential network upgrades and costs for queue projects.
  • Duplicate and shadow RTO/ISO/TO interconnection analyses to validate processes, identify potential issues, inform stay/withdraw decisions, or capacity reductions based on anticipated network upgrade costs.
  • Assist developers in renewable energy site‑selection activities and alternative analyses.
  • Support existing operational facilities for transmission‑related issues.
  • Review interconnection studies to understand impacts on project cost, schedule, and operational characteristics.
  • Support commercial transaction due diligences by supplying expert transmission analysis.
  • Represent Leeward and maintain productive relationships with utilities, ISOs, industry groups, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in stakeholder forums to understand industry concerns and provide leadership on issues related to development of Leeward projects.
  • Support Government Affairs in renewable resource policy development.
  • Assist and support Transmission Interconnection and Market Staff as needed.
  • Prepare and submit interconnection requests.
  • Coordinate with external consultants supporting Leeward’s efforts.
  • Oversee utility interconnection studies to ensure they are reasonable and timely.
  • Negotiate utility interconnection agreements, affected system agreements, engineering and procurement agreements.
  • Develop and negotiate business arrangements to remove obstacles to project interconnections and reduce interconnection costs.
Qualifications
  • 4–6+ years minimum experience in transmission planning and generation interconnection activities using TARA, PSS/E, PSLF, or similar software.
  • Proficient in transmission system planning, transmission construction, and operation topics.
  • Knowledge of generation interconnection process, tariffs, electrical standards, and requirements.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with utilities, ISOs, and industry representatives.
  • Proficient in public speaking, presentation skills, and technical reporting.
  • Strong collaboration and problem‑solving skills, able to apply advanced engineering principles to complex issues.
  • Outstanding project and people management skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range $100,000–$140,000 annually, based on experience.

Physical Demands & Work Schedule
  • Travel approximately 20% of the time.
  • Requires sitting for long periods and occasional lifting up to twenty pounds.
  • In‑office role with hybrid flexibility (minimum three days onsite, two days remote; subject to manager approval).
