Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking an experienced accountant to support the accurate and timely closing of the general ledger under moderate supervision.

The role focuses on complex accounting activities, journal entries, reconciliations, fixed assets, lease/contract reviews, and adherence to GAAP with SOX controls. You will mentor junior staff, lead accounting initiatives, and ensure robust internal controls while contributing to process improvements in a large corporate environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related quantitative discipline.
  • 4 years accounting experience in financial reporting in public or large corporate environment.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Perform fixed asset processing and lease/contract reviews.
  • Analyze large elements of revenue/expense for internal reporting.
  • Ensure GL balances are accurate and internal controls tested per Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Mentor less senior staff and lead accounting initiatives.
  • Comply with laws, regulations, and company procedures.

Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under moderate supervision, this position is responsible for complex accounting activities supporting the accurate and timely closing of the general ledger.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepares and post journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset processing, lease/contract review, accrual entries, and/or budget variance reviews
  • Researches and analysis of assigned large elements of revenue and expense and the related internal reporting
  • Ensure general ledger account balances are materially correct in compliance with internal controls and GAAP and that internal control risks are tested and documented in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Lead accounting initiatives/ projects including: process improvement, regulatory compliance/changes and policy
  • Mentors less senior staff
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or other related quantitative discipline is required. Related experience may offset degree requirements and related education/degree may offset experience requirements
  • Four (4) years experience in accounting for financial reporting in a public accounting firm or in a large for-profit corporate environment.
  • Excellent analytical and financial analysis skills required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP standards required.
  • Outstanding knowledge of business software, spreadsheet applications and/or mainframe or web-based applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills.

Accounting background is preferred;

CPA (active or in-process) is not necessarily required but would be preferred. Experience in data analytics, automation or AI is preferred.
