FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking an experienced accounting professional responsible for highly complex accounting activities to support the accurate and timely close of the general ledger.

The role involves journal entries, reconciliations, fixed assets, lease/contract reviews, accruals, and variance reviews. The position requires strong analytical abilities, proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related quantitative discipline is required.
  • Excellent analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Outstanding knowledge of business software, spreadsheet applications and/or mainframe or web-based applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills including presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the accurate and timely close of the general ledger.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, reconciliations, fixed asset processing and accruals.
  • Research and analyze large elements of revenue and expense for internal/external reporting.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and SOX controls are tested and documented.
  • Lead cross-functional teams on major initiatives and coach lower level staff.

Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for highly complex accounting activities supporting the accurate and timely close of the general ledger. Problems faced are difficult and often complex.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for highly complex accounting activities supporting the accurate and timely close of the general ledger
  • Prepares and post journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset processing, lease/contract review, accrual entries, and/or budget variance reviews
  • Researches and analysis of assigned large elements of revenue and expense and the related internal/external reporting
  • Ensures general ledger account balances are materially correct in compliance with internal controls and GAAP and that Internal control risks are tested and documented in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Leads internal and cross functional teams on major initiatives/projects including: process improvement, regulatory compliance/changes and policy recommending innovative solutions. Coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level professionals
  • Complies with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or other related quantitative discipline is required. Related experience may offset degree requirements and related education/degree may offset experience requirements.
  • Five (5) years experience in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and financial analysis skills required.
  • Outstanding knowledge of business software, spreadsheet applications and/or mainframe or web-based applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills including presentation skills

Accounting background is required;

CPA (active or in-process) is not necessarily required but would be preferred. Experience in data analytics, automation or AI is preferred.
