Job summary

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with 5–10+ years in aerospace. The role focuses on composite part design, laminate layups, and Siemens NX expertise, based in Oxnard, CA. It is an onsite direct-hire opportunity with an established aerospace company.

The candidate will drive concepts through detailed design, manufacturing, assembly, and integration, collaborating with cross‑functional teams while applying DFM and GD&T standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is required.
• 5–10+ years of mechanical/structural design experience in aerospace.
• Strong proficiency in Siemens NX including 3D modeling and drawings.
• Hands-on experience with composite part design, laminate definitions, and ply layup development.
• Knowledge of composite manufacturing processes and fabrication requirements.
• Experience designing machined metallic components and assemblies.
• Working knowledge of ASME Y‑14.5 and GD&T.
• Ability to perform hand calculations and basic structural analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop aerospace mechanical and structural components and assemblies from requirements.
• Detail design of composite and metallic components, focusing on weight and performance.
• Develop laminates, plies, and layups with DFM principles.
• Create and modify 3D models and drawings using Siemens NX.
• Prepare and release drawings per ASME Y14.5/GD&T standards.
• Perform hand calculations and basic FEA to support design decisions.
• Select materials, fasteners, and hardware.
• Support design reviews, documentation, and BOM development.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly teams to resolve build issues.
