Job summary

Talent Software Services in San Rafael is seeking an experienced accounting professional to own fixed assets, CAPEX, and related OPEX processes in a hybrid role (Tuesdays and Thursdays in the office). You will partner across project teams, FP&A, audit, and budget owners to translate requirements into practical guidance and drive timely close.

Responsibilities include end-to-end asset accounting, depreciation, CAPEX forecasting, SOX controls, and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including 3 years fixed assets/CAPEX.
• Strong US GAAP knowledge, including capitalization rules.
• Advanced Excel and large data set experience.
• Experience with a major ERP system (SAP/Oracle/NetSuite).

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end fixed asset accounting including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and depreciation.
• Maintain the fixed asset subledger and align with the general ledger.
• Perform monthly close activities: journal entries, reconciliations, rollforwards, and variance analysis.
• Review asset classifications for consistency with US GAAP and policy.
• Coordinate and support internal and external audit requests related to fixed assets.
• Partner with project managers to monitor capital project spend and capitalization vs. expense.
• Monitor Asset Under Construction balances and asset placements in service.
• Assist with depreciation and CAPEX forecasting for FP&A and partners.
• Apply capitalization policies consistently and improve related processes.
• Perform monthly OPEX PO reviews and attach supporting documentation.
• Prepare and analyze OPEX accruals for period-end expense recognition.
• Work with budget owners to investigate variances and communicate insights.
• Monitor open POs and receipts to align expense timing.
• Support monthly OPEX reporting and variance commentary for FP&A.
• Maintain internal controls over fixed asset and CAPEX processes.
• Support SOX documentation, testing, and remediation.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve data integrity.
• Contribute to ERP/system enhancement projects affecting fixed assets.

We are seeking an experienced professional to support the full lifecycle of fixed assets, CAPEX, and selected OPEX accounting. This role combines hands‑on accounting ownership with frequent partnership across project teams, budget owners, FP&A, audit, and other business functions. It is well suited for someone who can translate accounting requirements into clear, practical guidance and build productive working relationships across departments. Collaboration is central to this role. You will proactively communicate status, explain accounting conclusions in business-friendly language, ask effective follow‑up questions, and keep stakeholders aligned on deadlines, open items, and decisions.

What you will own

• Monitor open POs and goods or services receipts to assess expense timing and identify cleanup or closure needs.
• Support monthly OPEX reporting, including variance commentary for FP&A and business partners.
• Maintain strong internal controls over fixed asset and CAPEX processes.
• Support SOX documentation, testing, and remediation activities.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen reporting, and improve data integrity.
• Contribute to system enhancements or ERP projects affecting fixed asset accounting.

What you bring

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including 3 years focused on fixed assets and/or CAPEX.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, including capitalization rules and depreciation methodologies.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets.
• Experience with a major ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or a similar platform.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across departments, and drive follow‑through on open items.

Preferred

• CPA or CPA‑eligible.
• Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or another capital‑intensive industry.
• Familiarity with SOX controls and audit processes.
• Experience with project accounting modules or fixed asset subledger systems.
