Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in fixed assets and/or CAPEX.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, capitalization, and depreciation.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with large datasets.
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and depreciation.
• Maintain fixed asset subledger and reconcile to the general ledger.
• Perform month-end close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, rollforwards, and variance analysis.
• Monitor CAPEX projects and Asset Under Construction balances.
• Assess capitalization vs. expense treatment under US GAAP; support audits.
• Assist with CAPEX and depreciation forecasting; review OPEX POs and accruals.
• Partner with budget owners and FP&A on variance analysis; support SOX documentation.

We\'re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a leading biotech organization in San Rafael, CA.

Schedule: Hybrid – Tuesdays & Thursdays onsite

About the Role:

This position will take ownership of fixed asset, CAPEX, and selected OPEX accounting, while partnering closely with project managers, FP&A, budget owners, audit, and accounting teams.

You\'ll play an important role in ensuring accurate month-end close, maintaining strong internal controls, monitoring capital projects, and providing clear financial insights to business partners.

• Manage end-to-end fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and depreciation
• Maintain the fixed asset subledger and reconcile to the general ledger
• Perform monthly close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, rollforwards, and variance analysis
• Monitor CAPEX projects and Asset Under Construction (AUC) balances
• Assess capitalization vs. expense treatment under US GAAP
• Support internal and external audits
• Assist with CAPEX and depreciation forecasting
• Review OPEX POs, accruals, commitments, and expense timing
• Partner with budget owners and FP&A on variance analysis
• Support SOX documentation, testing, and remediation
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and data integrity

What We\'re Looking For

• Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years focused on fixed assets and/or CAPEX
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, capitalization, and depreciation
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with large datasets
