Job summary

AnaVation is seeking a Mid-level Database Administrator who will manage and optimize our customers' database environments, with deep expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and backup/restore strategies.

The role blends core DBA tasks with Windows Server system administration to ensure reliability, scalability, security, and collaboration with development and infrastructure teams. On-site in Washington, DC; Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and polygraph required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• 4+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA
• Experience with database administration and data policies, procedures, and standards
• Current Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility and ability to obtain a polygraph
• On-site 5 days a week in Washington, DC

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain moderately complex databases
• Maintain database dictionaries and integrate systems through database design
• Administer and test computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems
• Monitor performance, analyze wait stats, tune queries, and manage indexes and statistics
• Design, implement, and manage backup, recovery, and high availability/DR (e.g., AGs, log shipping)
• Perform system administration tasks including patching, scripting, and server configuration
• Automate routine operations using PowerShell or similar scripting tools
• Collaborate with teams to support application releases and schema changes
• Enforce database and system security with proper access controls, encryption, and auditing
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across production and non-production environments
• Create and maintain clear documentation for procedures, configurations, and best practices
