Job summary

AnaVation is seeking a Database Administrator to manage and optimize SQL Server environments with emphasis on performance tuning, backup/restore, and security. This on-site role in Washington DC requires a Top-Secret clearance and collaboration with development and infrastructure teams.

The ideal candidate will blend DBA tasks with Windows Server system administration, ensuring reliability, scalability, and secure data handling across platforms.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and maintains moderately complex databases.
• Maintains database dictionaries and integration of systems through database design.
• Administer and test computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems.
• Monitor performance, analyze wait stats, tune queries, and manage indexes and statistics.
• Design, implement, and manage backup, recovery, and high availability/DR (e.g., AGs, log shipping).
• Perform system administration tasks including patching, scripting, and server configuration.
• Automate routine operations using PowerShell or similar scripting tools
• Collaborate with teams to support application releases and schema changes
• Enforce database and system security with proper access controls, encryption, and auditing
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across production and non-production environments
• Create and maintain clear documentation for procedures, configurations, and best practices
