Job summary

AnaVation in Washington, DC seeks a mid-level Database Administrator to manage and optimize customer databases, focusing on SQL Server administration, performance tuning, backup/restore, and security. You will work with development and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable, scalable data platforms.

Requirements include 4+ years as a SQL Server DBA, a related Bachelor's degree, and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and polygraph.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 4+ years as a SQL Server DBA.
• Experience with database administration and DR planning.
• Experience developing enterprise data models.
• Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and polygraph.
• On-site 5 days a week in Washington DC.

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and maintains moderately complex databases.
• Maintain database dictionaries and integration of systems through design.
• Administer and test computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems.
• Monitor performance, analyze wait stats, tune queries, and manage indexes and statistics
• Design, implement, and manage backup, recovery, and high availability/DR (e.g., AGs, log shipping)
• Patching, scripting, and server configuration
• Automate routine operations using PowerShell or similar scripting tools
• Collaborate with teams to support application releases and schema changes
• Enforce database and system security with proper access controls, encryption, and auditing
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across production and non-production environments
• Create and maintain clear documentation for procedures, configurations, and best practices
