Job summary

Phillips Exeter Academy is seeking an Assistant Coach to instruct teams and individuals in sports fundamentals on campus. You will plan practices, motivate athletes, and help prepare them for competitions while aligning with academy values.

Responsibilities include coaching sessions, game preparation, rule updates, and transportation of athletes to events. Requires high school diploma; college degree preferred and flexibility for extended hours and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Experience coaching or playing sport is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions with collaboration of Head Coach.
  • Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation for games and tours.
  • Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, and philosophies relevant to their sport.
  • Adjust coaching techniques based on athletes' strengths and weaknesses.
  • Instruct individuals or groups in rules, strategies, and performance principles.
  • Evaluate athletes' skills and review performance records to determine potential.
  • Represent the program professionally within the bounds of good sportsmanship and PEA values.
  • Transport athletes to games with academy van or minibus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

TITLE: Assistant Coach
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
SCHEDULE: Sports teams have daytime practice Monday,Tuesday, Thursday,Friday, with home and away games/matchesWednesday and Saturday. Schedule may vary according to departmentaland Academy needs.
Salary Range: $4,020 - $4,915 per season.

Position Purpose

Instruct or coach teams and individual students in the fundamentalsof sports. Demonstrate techniques and methods of participation. Mayevaluate athletes' strengths and weaknesses as possible recruits,or to improve the athlete’s technique to prepare them forcompetition.

Job Responsibilities

  • Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, gamestrategies, and performance principles such as specific ways ofmoving the body, hands, and/or feet in order to achieve desiredresults.
  • Evaluate athletes' skills, and review performance records, inorder to determine their fitness and potential in a particular areaof athletics.
  • Represent the program in a professional manner and within thebounds of good sportsmanship and values of PEA.
  • Transport athletes to games with academy van or minibus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • College degree preferred.
Experience
  • Has played sport in high school or college or has reached alevel of expertise in the sport as an adult through participationcoaching or through a formal coaching development program.
  • Experience in an academic institution preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational settingpreferred.
Physical Requirements
  1. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work andwill require the ability to remain standing for extended periods oftime, go up and down flights of steps, lift and push heavy objectsas well as stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift.
  2. Physically able to act quickly in emergencies.
  3. Ability and dexterity to grasp and grip and safely operatesports equipment.
  4. Ability to lift and transport up to 25lbs withoutassistance.
Additional Requirements
  1. Successfully complete upon hire a criminal background check(reviewed every 5 years; every 2 years for Crew).
  2. Clean driving record upon hire (reviewed annually).
