Job description

Title: Assistant Crew Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director

Schedule: Sports teams have daytime practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, with home and away games/matches Wednesday and Saturday. Season starts March 2nd, and ends May 23rd. Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs.

Salary: $4761/season

Position Purpose

Instruct or coach teams and individual students in the fundamentals of sports. Demonstrate techniques and methods of participation. May evaluate athletes' strengths and weaknesses as possible recruits, or to improve the athlete’s technique to prepare them for competition.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions with collaboration of Head Coach.
  • Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation in order to prepare athletes for games, competitive events, and/or tours.
  • Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport.
  • Adjust coaching techniques based on the strengths and weaknesses of athletes.
  • Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles such as specific ways of moving the body, hands, and/or feet in order to achieve desired results.
  • Evaluate athletes' skills, and review performance records, in order to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics.
  • Represent the sports program in a professional manner and within the bounds of good sportsmanship and values of PEA.
  • Transport athletes to games with academy van or minibus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Candidates will be required to hold/obtain a NH Commercial Boating License and become CPR/AED certified.
Experience
  • Has played sport in high school or college or has reached a level of expertise in the sport as an adult through participation, coaching or through a formal coaching development programme.
  • Experience in an academic institution preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.
Physical Requirements
  1. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and will require the ability to remain standing for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, lift and push heavy objects as well as stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch and lift.
  2. Physically able to act quickly in emergencies.
  3. Ability and dexterity to grasp and grip and safely operate sports equipment.
  4. Ability to lift and transport up to 25 lbs without assistance.
