Job summary

The City of Fishers is offering a Spring 2027 Communications & Community Engagement Intern position. This temporary, part-time role pays $15 per hour and runs January–May 2027, with potential extension into summer 2027.

Expect 20–25 hours per week, with some nights and weekends for events and on-site shoots. Ideal candidates are pursuing majors in Communications, PR, Journalism, Marketing or related fields, with strong writing and digital media skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Communications, PR, journalism, marketing or related field.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
• Able to organize and prioritize projects with tight deadlines.
• Experience managing social media professionally (Facebook, X, Instagram).
• Graphic design, photography, and video experience.
• Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
• Basic knowledge of SEO concepts.
• Familiarity with content management systems (WordPress/SharePoint) is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of email marketing.
• Knowledge of web technologies is a bonus.
• Must work in-person ~3 days/week, 20–25 hours.

Responsibilities

• Execute communications strategies and create digital assets.
• Create social media content for City of Fishers accounts.
• Draft posts for social channels.
• Research, interview, and author blog posts.
• Draft communications using Sprout Social and Canva.
• Contribute ideas to reach new audiences and engagement.
• Assist with website content buildout; support media relations.
• Coordinate and participate in community engagement events.
