Lydian is seeking a 6-month Chemical Synthesis Engineer/Scientist Co-op for Spring 2026 in Boston, MA. This in-person, lab-focused role involves designing, synthesizing, and testing novel catalyst materials for high-temperature reactor systems.

You will work with engineers and scientists to advance candidate materials from bench-scale synthesis toward pilot and commercial systems, delivering results that shape material selection and process transfer.

Qualifications

• Hands-on chemical synthesis and wet lab techniques.
• Understanding of reaction kinetics and mass transfer fundamentals.
• Ability to plan, document, and execute experiments with data analysis.
• Safe lab practices with hazard awareness in high-temp environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication for cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize catalyst formulations for high-temperature reactor requirements.
• Test bench-scale reactors and track activity and stability over time.
• Scale-up formulations to coat large substrates and adapt recipes.
• Collaborate with automotive catalyst suppliers to enable scalable processes.
• Use characterization methods to study materials and degradation mechanisms.
• Work with other projects to integrate reactor design and coatings needs.
• Develop synthesis plans, define hypotheses, and prioritize experiments.
