Job summary

Lydian Labs, Inc. in Boston, MA is seeking a 6-month Chemical Synthesis Engineer/Scientist Co-op for Spring 2026. This hourly, in-person role focuses on designing, synthesizing, and testing novel catalyst materials for high-temperature reactors.

You will work across disciplines to move promising candidates from bench-scale to pilot-ready formats. You will prepare formulations, perform reactor tests, and analyze performance while collaborating with engineers and scientists to inform experimental

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master's in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science.
• Hands-on chemical synthesis and wet-lab techniques (precipitation, impregnation, calcination).
• Knowledge of reaction kinetics, heat transfer, and mass transport is beneficial.
• Ability to plan, document, and execute experiments; analyze data; apply statistics.
• Commitment to safe lab practices and hazard mitigation.
• Strong written and verbal communication; proactive, collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize novel catalyst formulations for high-temperature reactor systems (1000+ h at 1000+ °C).
• Conduct bench-scale reactor testing and track activity, selectivity, and stability.
• Scale up promising formulations to coat large substrates and adapt recipes to larger batches.
• Collaborate with automotive catalyst suppliers to develop scalable techniques.
• Use characterization methods to understand materials and degradation mechanisms.
