We offer 10-week summer reporting internships at our headquarters in Minneapolis, MN. We select talented, driven college juniors, seniors and graduate students who can cover breaking news, as well as write enterprise stories. We expect our interns to come to us with skill and leave with polish and invaluable experience from a major-market newsroom. Interns are paid $850 a week. Interns may be able to apply for any available apprenticeships at the completion of the summer.
We are seeking a talented and driven reporter for the sports department to cover breaking news and live events and develop enterprise stories. This assignment could involve in-person coverage of professional and college sports, as well as high school sports for the Star Tribune's Strib Varsity franchise. There are also opportunities in podcasting, video and social media. Candidates should have reporting experience and a demonstrated interest in sports, as well as the ability to work independently under deadline pressure. This student will work collaboratively with editors, photographers and other reporters for a Top-10 sports department, as recognized by the Associated Press Sports Editors, and gain invaluable real-world experience in a big-time sports market with seven professional teams, Big Ten athletics and a thriving preps scene.

Qualifications:
We select talented, driven collegejuniors, seniors and graduate students. Excellent communication and writing skills, flexibility and the ability to handle deadline pressure are all crucial in this job. We also value candidates who are proficient with web research tools, social media tools and InCopy or similar publishing software. Skills working with data, including analysis and building digital visualizations, are a plus.
The internship typically runs early June to early August.
