Mary's Woods in Lake Oswego, OR seeks a Spiritual Care Chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional support to residents, families and staff; focus on life transitions, ritual, end of life, bereavement and crisis intervention; collaborate with care teams to integrate spiritual care into overall wellness.

Requirements include a Master’s in Chaplaincy or related field, ACPE 4 units, board certification within 2 years, and at least three years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Chaplaincy, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 4 units of ACPE accredited by ACPE.
• Board Certification within 2 years of hire (or Certification ready).
• Minimum three years of experience in similar settings.

Responsibilities

• Provides Spiritual Care to residents as referred by care team and/or assigned by the Director of Spiritual Care.
• Assists residents, families and staff in finding meaning in illness, transitions, grief and loss, providing emotional and spiritual well-being.
• Accompanies residents, families and staff to reconcile life experiences with values and beliefs; helps identify inner resources.
• Provides worship, funerals, memorial services, prayer and other forms of ritual for diverse traditions.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of theology, spirituality, pastoral counseling and ethics.
• Works with others in a non-judgmental, positive, confidential manner.

Job description

Mary's Woods is seeking a Spiritual Care Chaplain who is committed to providing spiritual and emotional support and guidance to residents, families, and staff members. The Spiritual Care Chaplain will provide services in the area of Spiritual Care with a focus on life transitions, ritual, end of life, bereavement, and crisis intervention in a manner which promotes and supports the vision and values of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. The Chaplain articulates and interprets the meaning of Spiritual Care in the context of health and illness, and advocates for its effective inclusion in the care and support of residents, families and staff members and communicates with residents, families and staff members in an effort to enhance dignity, autonomy and self-respect as well as a sense of hope and spiritual well-being. The Chaplain also cooperates with staff members across all disciplines, units and programs as an active member of a team that supports and cares for our residents, and networks and collaborates with appropriate community groups, such as parishes and other agencies, in order to assure the continuity of Spiritual Care throughout the health-illness cycle. You must be able to relate positively and favorably to staff, residents, and families, and enjoy working on a team.

• Provides Spiritual Care to residents as referred by care team and/or assigned by the Director of Spiritual Care.
• Demonstrates an ability to assist residents, families and staff members in finding meaning in illness, transitions, grief and loss, suffering and death; providing for the emotional and spiritual well-being of all.
• Accompanies residents, families and staff members as they reconcile life experiences and struggles with their values and beliefs; helping them to explore and identify inner resources and sources of coping.
• Provides worship, funerals, memorial services, prayer and other forms of ritual in a variety of formats and honoring of diverse traditions, for residents, families, and staff members.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of theology, spirituality, pastoral counseling and ethics.
• Demonstrates an ability to work with others in a non-judgmental, positive, compassionate and confidential manner.
• Demonstrates respect for the dignity and rights of the resident, family or staff member, regardless of social or economic status, race, religion, national origin, gender or sexual preference.
• Initiates and performs appropriate Spiritual Care interventions as assigned.
• Attends committee and department meetings, and care conferences as assigned.
• Collaborates and consults with Spiritual Care staff and members of the interdisciplinary team to provide optimum support for residents and families.
• Consults appropriately with community clergy and congregations as related to ministry to residents, families and staff.
• Serves as a resource for worship and educational programming of the department as needed.
• Charts Spiritual Care interventions in a timely manner.
• Maintains the professional standards required of Chaplains and other Spiritual Care providers.

Education and Experience Required:

• Master’s degree in Chaplaincy, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 4 units of CPE accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
• Board Certificationwithin 2 years of hire (or Certification ready).
• Minimum three years of experience working in circumstances similar to those required.
