Job summary

The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist (Outpatient) to assess and treat communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders for patients aged 15 and older, under physician referral.

Under management direction, the SLP will develop patient-centered treatment plans, ensure medical necessity with evidence-based approaches, and maintain accurate documentation while supervising techs and students as required.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • CCC-SLP required by ASHA.
  • Indiana state licensure as SLP required.
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 4 weeks.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist (Outpatient) – Rehabilitation Hospital

(Indianapolis, IN)

RHI provides high-quality, evidence-based rehabilitation services to individuals facing life-changing injuries and illnesses. We specialize in brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and complex medical conditions, serving patients ages 15 and older. RHI is the only Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System in Indiana and one of only 16 nationwide.

Position Summary

Under management direction, The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) - Outpatient is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders for an inpatient and/or outpatient population age 15 and older, under the referral of a physician or qualified non-physician provider.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administers SLP evaluations to inpatients and outpatients and determines appropriate treatment programs and/or equipment needs, integrating age specific needs and issues for physical medicine rehabilitation population.
  • Provides comprehensive and accurate assessment for adults with speech, language, cognitive, voice, swallowing, and hearing impairment per policy for inpatients or outpatients.
  • Develops a patient-centered treatment plan for rehabilitation of patients based on the evaluation, patient goals and age-related issues/needs to optimize treatment and functional communication, cognition and/or swallowing.
  • Responsible for ensuring the treatment plan supports medical necessity and incorporates evidence-based treatments and outcome measures.
  • Accurately completes documentation in compliance with department and regulatory timelines to ensure a complete medical record that supports skilled services and appropriate medical necessity.
  • Charges appropriately for services provided and appropriately document outcome measures.
  • Provides clinical supervision, including but not limited to coordination of care and delegation of duties, to techs and students according to state/federal regulations and hospital guidelines.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university required
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association required
  • Speech-Language Pathologist IN state license required
  • Must have current CPR certification in accordance with AHA standards or be able to obtain within 4 weeks of start date
  • One (1) year of clinical experience in rehabilitation preferred but will consider Clinical Fellowship Year candidates
