Speech/Language Pathologist
Location: Crow Island Elementary School, Winnetka Public Schools District 36 (School Site‑Based or District)
Position Type: Long Term Substitute Assignment (September 5, 2026 – December 10, 2026)
Under the direct supervision of the building Principal, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Winnetka Public Schools, the Speech Pathologist is responsible for providing supportive services for eligible students enrolled in regular or special education programs. The Speech Pathologist will focus on student evaluation, provision of direct and indirect therapy services, and collaborative consultation with staff, parents, and administrators.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate teachers and parents in observing, describing, and referring suspected speech and language impairments.
- Provide comprehensive speech and language evaluation of students referred for suspected impairments through the IEP Evaluation Review process.
- Serve as a member or coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team to provide and interpret the assessment of speech and language skills in determining appropriate placement in special education programs/services for eligible students.
- Provide speech and language therapy services and periodic reporting of student progress, as determined by the Individualized Education Program team, to eligible students in regular or special education programs.
- Coordinate with and provide consultative services to general education teachers, parents, and other special education staff working with eligible students.
- Provide information and in‑service regarding speech and language development, impairments, programs and services for teachers and parents.
- Coordinate with community agencies and resources regarding speech and hearing information that will support the family, child and school.
- Participate in or develop an IEP for each eligible student on an annual basis.
- Complete and maintain documentation of services provided in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Additional Job Functions
Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Building Principal/Assistant Principal.
Qualifications
- A current Professional Educator's License (PEL) with a Speech/Language Pathologist endorsement.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence required; Illinois Dept. of Professional Regulation (IDPR) license preferred.
- Holds or is eligible for Illinois (Speech‑Language Pathologist) teaching license.
- Knowledge of special education laws, rules, and regulations.
- Knowledge of speech/language development and pathology necessary to identify communication disorders and develop appropriate programs and services.
- Ability to work and effectively communicate with administrators, staff, agencies, medical providers, students, and families.
- Effective time management skills, self‑directedness, and initiative when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.
- Ability to make decisions and problem‑solve within a team of service providers.
- Experience working effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- High energy level and willingness to devote the time required of the position.
- Commitment to continuous personal and professional growth.
- Clearance of FBI Background check and EHR/Faith's Law required.
- TB test within 90 days of hire date; Physical exam within last year of hire date.
- Valid First Aid/CPR cards preferred.
Physical Requirements
Moderate degree of physical stamina with occasional lifting of 10 to 15 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
