Description of Work

This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. This temporary position is located in Black Mountain - Buncombe County.

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is located at 932 Old Highway 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711.

The Speech and Language Pathologist provides communication services, dysphagia assessments and monitoring and assistance to residents with Developmental Disabilities and neuro cognitive disorders who reside at BMNTC. Position provides direct assessment, consultation, and training to residents, resident representatives, members of the interdisciplinary treatment team, and other key departments to ensure provision of services. This position is part of the Therapeutic Services Team (TST). BMNTC is a comprehensive, long term, 24-hour residential environment serving persons with Dementia and/or Developmental Disabilities, who require continuous medical/physical support and comprehensive services coordinated by an interdisciplinary team in compliance with OBRA 87 Regulations. Hourly salary to be based on education and/or years of relevant work experience as reflected on the application.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

  • Considerable knowledge of speech-language therapy principles, including clinical assessment related to swallowing and cognition.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience providing education to residents, care providers, employees, and resident representatives.

Management Preferences

  • Experience in working with individuals with neurocognitive disorders.
  • Advanced experience with dysphagia diagnosis and interventions.
