Position Overview

Responsibilities
  • Serves as a resource to the school staff in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language impairments.
  • Provides screening to identify speech‑handicapped children at regular intervals and specified levels.
  • Assists in appropriate referrals of individuals to community agencies and specialists.
  • Provides individualized therapy programs to meet students’ needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and school staff to implement therapy recommendations in daily activities.
  • Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.

  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory in the field.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community.
  • Speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of School Trustees policies.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in speech and language pathology.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certification as a speech pathologist.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Present information effectively and respond to questions from customers, school personnel, the director of special education, and parents.
Mathematical Skills
  • Work with probability and statistical inference, apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
  • Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly sit; occasionally walk and stand.
  • Require close vision and continuous auditory discrimination.
  • May occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and push items of 50 pounds or more.
Work Environment
  • Noise level usually quiet to moderate.
  • Responsible for safety, well-being, and work output of students.
  • Travel between schools during the day.
Benefits

Salary will be commensurate with the level of education and experience. The range is Career Path II: $48,500 - $90,500. The position offers medical, dental, vision, life, and long‑term disability insurance, retirement plans, and access to health & wellness centers.
