  • Attends meetings and participates in professional development.
  • Consults with classroom teachers to integrate speech-language activities.

SUMMARY:

To work with a multidisciplinary team in assessing speech and language needs of students and implementing individualized plans to address those needs.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Master’s degree in the area of Speech-Language Pathologist
  2. Hold a valid Indiana Speech-Language license.
  3. Such additional qualifications as the Board or the State of Indiana shallrequire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties may be assigned.

Teaching/Learning and Effective Instruction
  1. Evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors.
  2. Plans and conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of students with communication problems of organic and nonorganic etiology.
  3. Provides counseling and guidance and language development therapy to disabled students.
  4. Reviews individual files to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is available.
  5. Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.
  6. Develops and implements individualized plans for assigned students to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  7. Evaluates and monitors individual students.
  8. Reviews treatment plan, and assesses individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs.
  9. Maintains records as required by law, RBBCSC policy, and administrative regulations.
  10. Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.
  11. Instructs individuals to monitor their own speech and provides ways to practice new skills.
  12. Serves as consultant to classroom teachers to incorporate speech andlanguage development activities into daily schedule.
  13. Teaches communication strategies to nonverbal students that are appropriate to their needs (i.e. sign language, AT devices, pictures, etc.)
  14. Billing of medicaid for students who are medicaid eligible, and maintain notes/services in medicaid program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general counseling periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate to the duties assigned. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.Ability to use appropriate language and accompanying techniques with adolescents on one-to-one basis as well as in groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
