Job summary

Audubon Charter is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant to support SPED students and collaborate with Lead Teachers to implement the classroom plan. The role emphasizes flexibility, communication, and a caring approach in a dynamic educational environment.

The position requires a High School Diploma and experience with children in school settings; CPI training is required or willingness to attend training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Experience working with children in a school or related setting.
• Experience in and/or understanding of the public school system is desirable.
• Must be trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or willing to attend training.

Responsibilities

• Communicate each morning with Lead Teacher about daily needs/goals.
• Help Lead Teachers clean/organize and carry out the classroom vision.
• Observe lessons, make copies, hand out materials, clarify directions, and ensure materials are restored.
• Observe SPED students for needs and share reflections with the teacher.
• Meet weekly with Lead Teachers and Instructional Strategists to discuss observations and progress.
• Sit near students who need extra support and offer help as needed.
• Build relationships with SPED students to encourage growth.
• Use Behavior Trackers as provided to inform instruction.

Education

High School Diploma

Experience working with children in a school or related setting

Experience in and/or understanding of public school system desirable

CPI training or willingness to attend CPI training
