Job summary

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare in Staunton, Virginia, is seeking a highly motivated Special Education Teacher (Alternative Education) for Liberty Point Academy. The role requires leading classroom instruction aligned with IEP/IPP goals, implementing behavioral supports, and collaborating with a treatment team in a trauma-informed setting.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in Education and a VA Special Education license (or eligible).

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
• Hold a current Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education or General Curriculum K-12; or hold a Special Education conditional license with plans to fulfill requirements for a professional license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Preferred: at least three years of classroom experience.
• Preferred: Hold a current VA Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmentally appropriate classroom instruction to assigned students according to IEP/IPP goals and objectives, student strengths and learning preferences, research-supported methods and techniques, and Liberty Point recommended practices.
• Implement the Behavioral Program at Liberty Point, assess and document students’ behavior progress and adjust strategies as needed in consultation with the treatment team.
• Assess students’ academic achievement continually and adjust instructional planning to maximize student achievement.
• Maintain consistent communication with staff, parents/guardians, and local education agencies; attend meetings; update IEPs/IPP’s and progress reports.
• Participate in professional development activities including on-site training and off-site classes, workshops, etc.
• Display professionalism in all activities and interactions with students, staff, parents, and others.
