Job summary

Loudoun County Public Schools in Leesburg, VA seeks a Special Education teacher under general supervision to plan and implement instructional programs and related services for students. Positions may involve science labs or technology labs with enhanced monitoring to ensure student safety.

Responsibilities include assessing student achievement, planning lessons, managing behavior, coordinating with staff, and engaging families to monitor progress and support learning objectives.

Qualifications

• Holds a Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education.
• Eligible for a Virginia teaching license in Special Education (must submit transcripts).
• Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialties.
• Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development.
• Knowledge of LCPS curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization.
• Skill in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning; ability to plan and implement lessons.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents; strong oral and written communications.

Responsibilities

• Continually assess student achievement and maintain assessment documentation.
• Plan and implement instructional strategies and activities with appropriate materials and media.
• Manage learner behavior to create a conducive learning environment.
• Coordinate instructional activities with other staff to maximize learning opportunities.
• Participate in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings.
• Communicate with students about progress and expectations.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means.
• Collaborate with guidance counselors, librarians, and others to carry out schoolwide activities.
