Job summary

REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT in Redwood City, CA is seeking a Paraeducator Special Education to support students with emotional, educational, physical, and/or behavioral needs. Under supervision, you will assist a certificated teacher with instructional activities and classroom management.

You will help adapt materials, monitor student progress, perform clerical tasks, and participate in safety procedures and field trips as needed.

Qualifications

• General needs and behavior of children.
• Ability to reinforce instruction for individual or small groups.
• Proficiency in English; read, write, translate as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the instruction of students with emotional, educational, physical and/or behavioral problems; maintain sensitivity to learning difficulties.
• Assist certificated teacher by providing individual assistance to students in academic areas; work with small groups.
• Review student history and individual education plans as directed; review daily lesson plan with instructional personnel.
• Develop and present learning materials and instructional exercises; assist in master plan timelines and activities.
• Assist with activities for motor development and body awareness; support safe and positive behaviors.
• Observe student safety; assist in resolving disputes; reinforce appropriate behavior using positive methods.
• Set up work areas for reading, crafts and activities; set up displays and bulletin boards.
• Operate instructional and office equipment; assist with copiers, computers, typewriter and related tasks.
• Maintain routine records; grade tests and protect student confidentiality.
• Accompany mainstreamed students to classrooms; provide individual instructional assistance.
• Monitor playgrounds and field trips; help arrange and transport on field trips.
• Confer with teachers; administer and score classroom tests as assigned.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development; translate communications as needed.
• Perform first aid in emergencies; follow health and safety rules.
