Job summary

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS is seeking an Instructional Assistant-SPED to support teachers and students in a school setting. You will tutor students, facilitate activities, read to children, and help prepare AV/media resources for instruction.

The role also involves supervision during recess and meals, maintaining student confidentiality, and assisting with classroom clerical duties as directed by the principal.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required with additional qualifications listed below.
• Associates degree or higher OR two years of college (48 credit hours) OR ParaPro Assessment 460 OR CDA credential.
• Willingness to complete 10 modules on Paraeducator training within 2 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Tutor individual and small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
• Facilitate student tasks in activity centers.
• Read to children and listen to children read.
• Assist in the preparation of AV, media and technology for instructional use.
• Help supervise children in and out of the classroom.
• Assist the classroom teacher in completing the clerical tasks of the classroom.
• Respect the confidentiality of the students in all matters at all times.
• Indoor & outdoor student supervision for playground/cafeteria.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the building principal.
