Job summary

Portage Township Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Central at Portage, Indiana. This part-time position supports classroom teachers with supervision, preparation of instructional materials, and small-group tutoring.

The role requires a high school diploma with acceptable avenues for further certification or training. The assistant helps in AV/tech set-up and maintains student confidentiality, with duties spanning supervision in and out of the classroom.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and any one of the following: Associates degree or higher OR Two years of college (48 credit hours) OR ParaPro Assessment with a score of 460 OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR Be willing to complete 10 modules in the online training platform Paraeducator within 2 months of employment at PTS (free training resources provided by PTS)

Responsibilities

• Tutor individual and small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
• Facilitate student tasks in activity centers.
• Read to children and listen to children read.
• Assist in the preparation of AV, media and technology for instructional use.
• Help supervise children in and out of the classroom.
• Assist the classroom teacher in completing the clerical tasks of the classroom.
• Respect the confidentiality of the students in all matters at all times.
• Indoor & outdoor student supervision for playground/cafeteria.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the building principal.

Education

Associates degree or higher

Two years of college (48 credit hours)

ParaPro Assessment with a score of 460

Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
