Job summary

Journey Community Schools seeks an Instructional Assistant to support classroom teachers in delivering a high-quality, personalized education for students during the school day and after-school programs in Tennessee. You will help implement plans, monitor progress, and assist with differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

Ideal candidates have knowledge of child development, strong communication, and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles.
• Ability and willingness to implement JCS Instructional Guidelines and Best Practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and collaboration with colleagues, parents and community.
• 1+ year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred.
• Associate’s degree or two years of college experience is relevant.

Responsibilities

• Support classroom systems and manage student behavior to keep students engaged.
• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Tennessee State Standards and JCS guidelines.
• Assess students and analyze assessment data.
• Collaborate with JCS team to improve instructional practices.
• Teach in after-school program, including intervention and acceleration for students below grade level.
• Assist with planning differentiated instruction (parallel teaching, small groups, one-on-one).
• Teach or co-teach Advisory class to develop student character.
• Participate in professional development and work with lead teacher and principals.
