Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment
• Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification
• Completed training program for teacher assistants or relevant work experience
• Knowledge of child growth and behavior; ability to work with diverse groups
• Fluency in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare space per student needs
• Assist with inventory and maintenance of equipment
• Keep administrative records and prepare required reports
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
• Assist students with disabilities, including transfers and positioning
• Assist with personal care and daily living needs as required
• Support classroom curriculum and instructional activities
• Help manage student behavior and intervene as needed
• Monitor learning needs and adapt to each student
• Supervise students during lunch, bus, and recess
• Inform teachers of special needs or problems; maintain confidentiality
• Participate in staff development and school events
• Attend all assigned tasks and duties; maintain punctual attendance
