Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires valid Washington State teaching certificate for special education
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; Master's preferred
• Experience teaching special education students preferred
• Ability to develop and implement behavior intervention programs
• Knowledge of Behavior Intervention Plans and behavioral management systems
• Ability to coordinate a team of staff assistants and community resources
• Clear and effective written and oral communication
• Enthusiasm for teaching and student learning
• Experience with documenting progress and maintaining records
• Familiarity with state standards and testing
• Advanced use of technology as a teaching/communication tool
• Willingness to participate in staff development aligned with district initiatives

Responsibilities

• Implements and prepares lesson plans
• Integrates technology into planning, learning, and record-keeping including IEPs using IEP.Online
• Delivers instruction using prescribed curriculum with differentiation for student needs
• Uses effective teaching strategies for individualized learning needs
• Maintains classroom discipline and positive learning environment
• Develops positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
• Communicates student progress to parents as directed
• Engages students in technology-enabled learning activities
• Works collaboratively with grade/content teams and staff
• Performs faculty duties including student supervision
• Maintains punctual attendance and adheres to building schedules
• Supervises students as required
• Performs other duties as assigned
